He Brazilian Navy will be paying special tribute to the 25th anniversary of the legacy left by Ayrton Senna, a three-time F1 world champion. The “Brasil” school-ship will be travelling to 15 countries, stopping at 18 ports around the world and telling part of the history of the greatest driver ever to the vessel’s crew.
The ship’s TV sets will be playing videos about Senna’s career, as well as a banner for the Senna 360 app, through which users can visit a virtual museum about the driver’s career. A replica of the iconic helmet worn by Senna during the 1993 season will be on display. The helmet is on loan from the Ayrton Senna Institute.
The ship will set sail from Moncaguê Island, located under the Rio-Niterói Bridge, on July 21 after 10 AM. Its return is scheduled to December 15 of the current year.
“We’re very happy with the tribute the Brazilian Navy is paying to Ayrton. He was a role model to all Brazilians, both on and off the track, so it’s an honor to know that the story of my uncle will be told to crewmembers and everyone who has the chance to visit the ship in several countries”, says Bianca Senna, the driver’s niece and Branding Director of the Ayrton Senna Institute.
It will be the 33rd Ensign Instruction Trip. The commission’s goal is to complement the technical knowledge acquired by navy personnel at the Navy School with practical experience, to broaden the cultural horizons of future navy officials and to represent the country and the Brazilian Navy abroad, promoting the strengthening of bonds with friendly nations.
The “Brasil” School-Ship will also dock at two Brazilian ports: Salvador, Bahia, from the 24th to the 26th of this month and Fortaleza, Ceará, on the way back, from the 7th to the 9th of December.
One of the most special places the “Brasil” school-ship will be visiting is Monaco, where Senna made history with six F1 wins – still the record for the circuit, which sits at the city’s port area.
