“In the week we celebrate Ayrton Senna’s 55th birthday, fans of the three-time F1 world champion will get the chance to admire a new statue of the driver at the Petropolis Wax Museum, in Rio de Janeiro. Manufactured by a British studio with works of art displayed at the most famous museum of its kind, Madame Tussauds, in London, the piece was officially presented on Friday, March 20th, at the Ayrton Senna Institute, in São Paulo.
“The idea comes from how important Ayrton Senna is to the world of motor sports and to the millions of Brazilians who admire his achievements. We thought it was crucial to get Senna’s family involved in every aspect of the sculpture’s production, since there’s no one better than his own relatives to give input in the matter”, said the Petropolis Museum curator, Renato Bomtempo.
“The fact that the family was there during the whole process of production made all the difference. This allowed the sculptor to capture every single detail of the driver’s physiognomy”, adds Bontempo, mentioning that it took eight months for the statue to be completed.”
On behalf of the family, Bianca Senna, Branding Director of the Ayrton Senna Institute, received the piece and was visibly impressed with the work of the artists, who’ve been perfecting this technique for more than ten years. “The final result is incredible; the whole family was really moved by seeing such a faithful likeness of Ayrton (Senna). I’m sure fans will be impressed”, said Bianca.
The Petropolis Wax Museum will display the Ayrton Senna Statue starting this Saturday, March 21st, 2015.
