Senna in Monaco: driving in another dimension
At the 1988 Monaco GP, when Senna was almost 1s5 faster than Alain Prost at the qualifying session – a huge difference in F1 – the Brazilian admitted he had pushed himself and his car very close to the limit. “On that day, I realized I wasn’t consciously driving anymore. It felt like I was in another dimension. The circuit was a tunnel for me, and I was just going and going and going ahead”, said Senna.
Ayrton admitted He ended up losing focus, and that was why he crashed his McLaren less than 12 laps away from the end of the race. “I was so close to perfection, on that weekend, that I relaxed. I invited a mistake, and that was the lesson I learned”. Check out Senna’s full statement on the video:
