Narrated to recreate Galvão Bueno’s historic lines and Ayrton Senna’s victory shout at Interlagos in 1991, the first images of Senna, debuting still in 2024, relive the epic moment of F1 after the driver’s first win in Brazil with only the sixth gear.
The teaser for Netflix’s new Brazilian fiction miniseries also unveils the possible thoughts and memories that propelled Ayrton, played by Gabriel Leone, to that point. Emblematic characters whom he interacted with that year also make an appearance, including Xuxa (Pâmela Tomé), Alain Prost (Matt Mella), and McLaren team principal Ron Dennis (Patrick Kennedy) as well as Galvão himself (Gabriel Louchard).
Throughout six episodes, “Senna” will portray, for the first time, Ayrton’s journey of overcoming obstacles, encounters, joys, and sorrows, delving into his personality and personal relationships. The starting point is the beginning of the three-time Formula 1 champion’s motorsport career, when he moves to England to compete in Formula Ford, and it continues until the tragic accident in Imola, Italy, during the San Marino Grand Prix.
Directed by Vicente Amorim, who also serves as showrunner and director, and directed by Julia Rezende, “Senna” is produced by Gullane and made with the support of Senna Brands and the pilot’s family.
The emotional story of one of the greatest global sports heroes also features actors Alice Wegmann (Lilian, Ayrton’s first wife), Camila Márdila (Vivianne Senna, his sister), Christian Malheiros (Maurinho, the pilot’s friend), Flávio Lalli (brother-in-law), Gabriel Louchard (Galvão Bueno), Hugo Bonemer (Nelson Piquet), Julia Foti (Adriane Galisteu), Marco Ricca (Maurão, Ayrton’s father), Nicolas Cruz (his brother), Rodrigo Veloso (Flávio, brother-in-law), and Susana Ribeiro (Zaza, Ayrton’s mother). In addition to the mentioned Brazilians and the French actor Matt Mella (Prost), the cast includes Kaya Scodelario (portraying journalist Laura, a fictional character), Arnaud Viard (Jean-Marie Balestre), Patrick Kennedy (Ron Dennis), Joe Hurst (Keith Sutton), Johannes Heinrichs (Nikki Lauda), Keisuke Hoashi (Osamu Goto), Leon Ockenden (James Hunt), Richard Clothier (Peter Warr), Steven Mackintosh (Frank Williams), and Tom Mannion (Sid Watkins), among others.
