Bruno Senna’s birthday is this Saturday (October 15). Now 33 years old, the three-time world champion’s nephew keeps going strong in motor sports, his childhood passion, competing at the World Endurance Championship with the Mexican team RGR Sport, in the LMP2 category. The driver’s next challenge takes place this weekend, in Fuji, Japan.

Bruno was very close to his uncle, as child. He liked to go fast in any “toy” he could find – from go-karts, following instructions and tips by Ayrton, to jet-skis in Angra dos Reis (Rio de Janeiro), at the family’s beach house.

“Ayrton was always happy and kidding around. We had several fun adventures together. One of my favorite memories is of my first go-kart race, at the opening of our ranch’s go-kart track, in the countryside of São Paulo. He took me to the go-kart at the beginning of the race and waved the flag for my first victory, when I was just 7 years old. When I stopped the car beside him, he tapped my helmet and called me “Mr. Foot-on the-Brake”, which was his affectionate way of making fun of me. I’ll never forget that”, reminisces Bruno.

Nowadays, besides racing at the WEC, Bruno is also a McLaren official driver and takes part in several events around the world, representing the brand with which Ayrton made history.
