Ayrton Senna got his fourth pole position in Detroit and was confident in facing the race challenges on that North American street circuit.
The Brazilian driver’s strategy was to dictate the race’s pace and, in that way, preserve the Lotus tyres while the tank was full.
After the start, Ayrton Senna took the lead for seven laps but fell back due to brake problems.
Even so, he maintained the top 3 for most of the race. Despite his effort, the brake system failed on lap 51 and the front wheels locked up and the car slid out of control.
Once more out of the race, Ayrton Senna had to be satisfied with another Grand Prix fastest lap scoring.

When I was closing the gap to Alboreto, the brake pedal started to come loose and I had to pumb it a few times before each braking point. Unfortunately, I forgot about this issue at the same time that the ferrari was right in front of me, and I hit the wall on the 3rd courner.
